STARTUP STORIES WEEK 88: A TOUGH TIME FOR OUR TEAM

On Thursday last week in the middle of the night, we heard from our team in Cebu, Philippines that they were experiencing a typhoon and had lost power and internet. It’s now been a week since we heard from them. We are watching the news and sending our prayers for everyone affected, and hoping we hear from Lezel and Josi that they are safe and well soon. The typhoon has caused a huge amount of destruction and the sadly the death toll is approaching 400. Their well-being is what’s on our mind this week.

In Australia, as in much of the world the Omicron strain of COVID is rapidly spreading. It’s been closing in on our team here and we decided to take precautions and cancel both our Byron Bay photoshoot, and our trip to Brisbane to attend a Mys Tyler holiday party hosted by our wonderful contributor Amy Grant at the beautiful venue where she works. Most of the women attending have become friends through Mys Tyler and the Stylist in Residence program, and we were so looking forward to meeting them all and celebrating the end of the year. Since that trip was canceled both Jesse and Larissa have become unwell and are awaiting COVID results. We hope they rest up and feel better soon.

Finally, this is our last official week for the Year. Lorna, our COO and I are staying online and taking over for the others (so excuse the drop in social quality over the next 2 weeks), and will be focused on 2022 planning. 2021 was our first full year in business, we were building and creating. Next year we will be optimizing, and growing.

We know that what our team is going through right now is not isolated, it’s been a tough year for many people separated from family and friends, suffering from sickness and loss, with economic instability and so much more.

Sending our love and best wishes to you all. And please spare a prayer or thought for our team in Cebu, and all others over there coping with the aftermaths of the Typhoon.
